Non-synthetic™
Keep the source visible.
Non-synthetic is for what keeps a legible relationship to where it came from, what made it, and what happens to it next.
Not purity. Not a retreat into the rustic. Not human-made good, machine-made bad. A hand-carved table of illegally logged wood fails this; a fully documented CNC part can pass it. The one question underneath: can you still see the chain of consequence?
Mystery is lovely in novels. Less so in face cream.
Before calling something non-synthetic, be able to answer four ordinary questions about it.
Where from?Made of what? Can we fix it?Where next?
